MALONE-JONES "LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT" AWARD

Terry R. Woods

Terry R. Woods is a Consultant and Principal Owner of T.R. Woods & Associates. Throughout his professional career he has served in the roles as Chief Metallurgical Engineer for the Tennessee Valley Authority’s Nuclear Power Program, Vice President of Utility Services for S.L. King & Associates, and Regional Office Manager for Burns & Roe Engineering.

He earned his B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Alabama in 1980 and also completed the Owen Graduate School of Management “Executive Development Program” at Vanderbilt University in Nashville Tn. In addition he is a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Tennessee.

Mr. Woods is a Life Member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. whereby he has served as East Tennessee State Director and President of the Epsilon Xi Sigma Chapter Chattanooga Tn. He was also inducted into Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, Gamma Pi Boule’ Chattanooga Tn. in 2004, having served in the role as Past President.

Among his Honors, Board Memberships, and Community Service activities throughout the years are: Distinguished Engineering Fellow, University of Alabama; Metallurgical Engineering Fellow, University of Alabama, Chair University of Alabama Metallurgical Advisory Board, Chair Theta Delta Alumni Foundation Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., Chair Epsilon Xi Sigma Foundation Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., Chattanooga Tn, Member Tuskegee University Engineering Advisory Board, Member Advancing Minorities Interest in Engineering (AMIE) Executive Board, UA BAA Greek Council, and Greater Tucker Missionary Baptist Church, Trustee and Chair of the Affordable Housing Project.

He is married to Mrs. Jennifer S. Woods and they currently reside in Chattanooga Tn.

Arthur Dunning

Arthur N. Dunning was named interim president of Albany State University in December 2013 and was appointed president in November 2015 by University System of Georgia Chancellor Hank Huckaby.

As president, he focused on recruiting academically talented students and developing programs to help students remain in college and thrive until graduation. He championed academic rigor, increasing financial support in the academy through endowments and scholarships, high quality customer service and economic development.

Dr. Dunning led the consolidation of Albany State University and Darton State College and became president of the new university. A veteran administrator, scholar and lecturer, he has a distinguished track record in higher education in Alabama and Georgia. He has also worked and traveled in more than 30 countries. His portfolio includes experience in international education in East and Southeast Asia where he worked as a civilian chief executive officer for the U.S. Department of Defense Dependents Schools in Thailand.

Prior to serving as president of Albany State University, Dr. Dunning served as Vice Chancellor for International Programs and Outreach for the University of Alabama System in Tuscaloosa.

In higher education in Georgia for nearly 35 years, Dr. Dunning served in key leadership positions. He served as Vice President for Public Service and Outreach at the University of Georgia; Dean of Graduate Studies and Sponsored Research at Kennesaw State University; and Senior Vice Chancellor for Human and External Resources at the University System of Georgia.

The Alabama native earned his bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees at the University of Alabama.

He is married to Karen Baynes-Dunning, an attorney and former juvenile court judge in Atlanta. They have four sons and a grandson.
